Ah, book covers. I love them. So shiny and pretty. For the Alpha Omega Force series, I got it into my head that I could make my own covers. I thought I wanted something with a simply starry background and one or both of the major characters. Piece of cake, right? I created a cover and showed it to my friends Sam and Ed. They took one look, and gave me the old, "Oh, honey, no." I was shocked! How could I, someone with zero graphic art training have created an ugly cover? (tongue is firmly in cheek here) With my hopes of becoming the next great cover artist dashed, I went looking for help. Since I'm new to writing sci-fi romance, I reached out to other authors for advice on genre appropriate covers. Then I polled my amazing readers, who told me what colors and type of backgrounds they liked. Finally, I went to my cover artist Melody Simmons of BookCoversCre8tive and she gave me this... Gorgeous, isn't it? Alpha's Desire releases January 22, 2019. You can add it now on Goodreads. Pre-Order links are live for Apple, Barnes & Noble and Kobo. But deep space can be lonely, and Tony longs to share his love and passion with a mate. Many omegas would jump at the chance to bond with the virile alpha. But Tony desires only one, his best friend, and the one man he can’t have. An Omega Newly Awakened to Passion When it comes to mating, Star Officer Rashan Grove doesn’t trust alphas. He’s repressed his omega nature for years, choosing instead to focus on his career as an elite fighter pilot. Now that he’s experiencing his first heat in a decade, he turns to the alpha who has always been by his side for help. With a gentle touch and passionate embrace, Tony guides Rashan through nights of passion hotter than an exploding star. Unfortunately, when the heat clears, Rashan retreats behind a wall built from lifelong fears. How will Tony convince Rashan to embrace the bond between them before their shot at love is lost to the stars? Hello and Happy New Year! Today I'm sharing the first chapter for my upcoming release, Alpha's Desire - Book 1 in the Alpha Omega Force series. This chapter was written to the Top Gun Anthem by Harold Faltermeyer. Yes, Top Gun is one of the inspirations for the story. No, I'm not even a little ashamed of that. I hope you enjoy reading! Space stretched so far into the distance mathematicians had gone insane trying to calculate the vastness, while philosophers spent their lives theorizing over the meaning of its infinite reach. Rashan did neither. As he flew his jet, he scanned for signs of movement, splitting his attention between the radar and looking directly out the window in front of him. There was nothing there. Nothing but deep, inky black and the glow of distant stars.
He spoke quietly, the microphone in his helmet transmitting his voice to the rest of his squad over the communication link. "I think this is going to be a peaceful and uneventful patrol." His squad mate's response exploded in his ear as soon as he finished. "Boring!" Rashan grinned at Waylan's vocal disappointment. It was expected, as was the response that followed. "Any day that we don't have to directly engage with pirates or the Varnos is a good day," Lieutenant Sasha Jemison calmly said. Rashan understood her viewpoint. No matter how good they were as fighter pilots, battles were dangerous, and they risked their lives in each one. Still, he too was a little disappointed they'd be returning to the ship without seeing anything but space dust. However, a blip suddenly appeared on Rashan's radar. Followed by another. Then two more. "Guys. We've got company." "Looks like you jinxed us, Rashan," Tony said. Already getting into the mindset for a fire fight, Rashan grinned and answered his best friend without much remorse. "Sorry about that." "Don't be sorry!" Waylan cut in. "I need some action." "You're such a cowboy," Rashan said with a snort. He teased his friend, but secretly he was glad the Varnos had shown up. "Stay on me and wait to see what they do. They might stay far enough outside the transport lane to avoid violating the Guion Accords, and pass by us." Following his lieutenant's instructions, Rashan banked around slightly, staying on Sasha's left as they flew to meet the approaching space crafts. It was unlikely they were friendlies. Space travel was heavily regulated in this section of the Guion Galaxy, and they would have been informed of any expected traffic in this section before the start of their patrol. Which meant it was either pirates or unsanctioned rebels from the Varnos Federation. They'd find out soon who they were dealing with. Once they were in range for a hailing frequency, the lieutenant got on the line. "Attention! You are approaching a restricted travel lane, protected by the Zareen Earth Alliance Force. Identify yourself for travel approval or change course immediately. Action will be taken if you do not comply." Flying at a steady pace, his hands light on the controls, Rashan waited for the response to Sasha's order. When it came, it was in a heavily accented voice filled with loathing. "Shut up, earthling scum." "Well, that answers that," Rashan offered dryly. "Yes, it does," Sasha agreed. "Engage but remember, we are not the aggressors. If they attempt to retreat, let them." "You got it, boss." Rashan pushed up on the accelerator and his jet shot forward, streaking toward the line of small black ships. His radar signaled a shot coming at him a few seconds before he saw it himself. Yanking the controls, he tilted his craft onto the left wing. He avoided the hit but it shot so close underneath him his jet shuddered from the blowback. Quickly righting himself, Rashan locked onto his target, firing rapid blasts from the gun ports mounted on the front of his wings. His shots connected, and a second later a plume of smoke rose up, stark white against the black of space. The Varnos jet spun and wobbled before steadying itself enough to limp behind its fellow rebels. After that, they all retreated. Rashan shook his head in disgust as he watched the blips on the radar move farther and farther away before blinking out. "That was pointless." Waylan laughed. "At least we won." "So easily I don't even know why they bothered," Tony said in annoyance. "We'll patrol for another twenty to make sure they've really gone before we return to the ship." "Roger that," Rashan said with a nod. For the rest of the patrol, it remained quiet, with no sightings other than a registered cargo ship. So precisely twenty minutes later, they turned to head for home, the Galaxy Ship Marion 3. The ship was massive, as long as three football fields and several levels high. Despite its size, its design was sleek and elegant. The wings flared from its sides in smooth curves while the red-tipped tail rose in a perfect slope. Once they were in sight of their home base, Sasha got back on the comm link. "Lieutenant Jemison to Flight Command. 29th Star Squadron returning to base. Requesting entrance for four space craft." "Welcome Back 29th. Permission granted to enter the Marion in gates three and four." Two of the ship's rear doors for small craft slowly opened, and blinking laser runways guided them in. Rashan throttled back and flew forward slowly, taking entrance three on the left. Even at his decelerated speed, he was still flying too fast to stop on his own. The arresting wire caught his tail hook, pulling him to a complete stop on the lift before he shot back out into space on the other side. Rashan started shutting down the weapons system as the lift rose, taking him up to the flight deck. The lift stopped, locking into place with a metallic bang. He rolled forward slowly, driving along the lit path until he reached his assigned bay. After completing his post-flight check, he popped the canopy open and activated the exit ladder. Once he hit the ground, he gave the gleaming blue jet a small salute. "Thanks for keeping me safe, babe." He pulled off his helmet and waited for Tony, who was exiting his jet in the bay next to him. Tony took his helmet off as he walked over, revealing short, wavy black hair, smooth brown skin, and a close-cropped beard. He flashed a grin at Rashan, his dark eyes lit with amusement. "You've been flying for two years and you're still talking to your mech?"
In 2016 I launched a new series – Champions of Desire. Book one is Showing Him the Ropes, a m/m romance with mentor-mentee, older-younger, secret office romance tropes. Chance is in the twilight of his professional wrestling career, while Devin is an emerging talent. I love the story, the characters, and the idea for the entire series. I’m a huge fan of professional wrestling and I’ve watched off and on since I was a kid. I was excited to write a series set in one of my favorite settings.
But… I was also nervous. I’m well aware that a lot of people who aren’t professional wrestling fans, look down on wrestling. My own mother always asks my dad, ‘Why are you watching that? It’s fake.’ It’s pretty easy to see that there are very few books with professional wrestling as the backdrop. There’s lots of MMA but romance featuring main characters who work the squared circle for a living are few and far between. So I had fear. What if it bombed? What if Reddit Squared Circle got a hold of the book, and there was a huge thread making fun of it, and then they all went on a one-star review spree on Amazon?! Oh my god the horror. Or, even worse, what if a professional wrestler came across it and dogged it out on Twitter for all the world to see?
Yeah. I’m dramatic AF and make up worst case scenarios in my head all the time.
For the record, none of that happened. In fact, a professional wrestler friend of mine gave me some cool encouragement and advice on places to promote the book. But. When it was released, Ropes didn’t do well. The people who did read it really loved it! I received lots of positive messages, and the reviews on Amazon, Goodreads and the blog tour were solid. Thanks everyone! On the other hand, sales wise… Yeesh. It was painful. There could have been several factors at play there. 1) Maybe the blurb wasn’t that hot. 2) Maybe readers didn’t like the cover. 3) Maybe the story sucked. The biggest failure lies with me, however. I didn’t promote it as much as I should have. One, I was in the middle of leaving my day job at the time and deciding to put my house up for sale at the same time I was finishing and releasing the book. I was uncomfortable at that job and my time management for doing multiple things at once is negative 1 on a scale of 1 - 10. Basically I was under a lot of personal stress while I was birthing Showing Him the Ropes into the world. I also didn't take into account the shifting dynamics of the ebook market and the challenges of starting a new series. But if I could be painfully honest with you guys, the biggest problem was my own fear. I was so scared that people wouldn’t like or would make fun of the book that I did that thing where I sort of run and hide so I don’t have to face any possible criticism. Which meant I didn’t promote Chance and Devin very much. So when sales were poor (and I mean pooooor) I said to myself, “Self. That series is DOA. Nobody wants to read a wrestling romance. Pack it up and move on." But I have another but. Readers kept reaching out to me and asking would there be a book two. They wanted Tre and Brandon’s story. And you know what? I wanted their story too. I took some time, thought about it and realized I didn’t give my sexy wrestling dudes a fair shake. As a result, I’ve decided to re-launch the Champions of Desire series. Yay! I worked with my amazing editor Jae Ashley to tighten Chance and Devin’s story and write a more dynamic blurb. I also wanted a fresh start with the cover, so after a hilarious cover model selection poll on Twitter and Facebook, I reached out to Melody Simmons at BookCoversCre8tive to give Showing Him the Ropes a brand-new look. I think Chance and Devin look very nice together.
When a Gruff Veteran Meets an Irrepressible Rookie, Who Will Come Out on Top?
Chance “The Chancellor” Gerhardt – multi-time champion and respected veteran of the locker room – worries he’s entering the twilight of his professional wrestling career. All he wants is one more shot at a championship title run. Instead, his boss saddles him with mentoring a hot, young rookie, Devin Jacobs. Devin has admired The Chancellor for years, and he’s thrilled to work up close and personal with the steely eyed older wrestler. But while Devin learns from his mentor, he can’t resist admiring the man’s deliciously burly physique. Trapped together in the intimacy of late-night road trips and shared hotel rooms, longing glances lead to whispered confessions of desire. Devin would love to bring a little warmth and sexiness to his hero’s cold and solitary life. Unfortunately, Chance refuses the rookie’s flirting. After years in the business, he knows their careers will be ruined if their relationship is discovered by the fans. But Devin won’t let that fear stop him from going after everything he wants – championship gold and the man he desires. Can Devin find a way to prove to Chance that they can have it all? Or will their shot at love be defeated 1-2-3?
If you haven’t read it yet, Showing Him the Ropes is currently on sale for .99 on Amazon, Kobo, B&N, and Apple (Apple link coming soon).

Hector sighed with exhaustion as he drove up to his apartment building. The long, solitary drive back from his friend's wedding in the Texas Hill Country had tired him out, and the late hour had him ready for bed. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be going to sleep anytime soon. Drama waited for him inside his apartment. He sighed again. It was a sad day when a man dreaded going into his own home. Hector sucked it up and turned off the ignition. He was here now, so he might as well get in there and find out what the hell was going on. When he walked inside, he immediately noticed the young man sitting on his couch. Though uninvited, he was a friend from long ago, so Hector gave him a relaxed greeting. "Hey, Miguel. How are you?" The dark-haired young man shrugged, a lopsided smile on his handsome face. "Been better." Hector tossed his keys down on the end table. Miguel's mouth was puffy and split, a purplish bruise blooming on his cheek. The sight of the injury put Hector on immediate alert, ready to find out who’d hurt his friend. Before he could ask him about it, the door to his bedroom opened and Hector's mother came out. He didn't bother asking why she was in there with the door closed. From Miguel's face, he knew something had gone down. It’s time for one of my favorite parts of the publishing process: Cover Reveal! The cover for A Sniper’s Devotion officially debuted yesterday on the Two Chicks Obsessed with Books & Eye Candy Blog. But today I’m sharing it for the first time on my own blog. Until one night changes everything… A Sniper’s Devotion is a loving and sexy, friends to lovers erotic romance. Hector and Miguel’s story is part of the Cuffs, Collars and Love series, but it is a stand-alone novel. Isn’t he gorgeous? This is of course Hector Castillo, the cocky sniper from my SWAT team in the Cuffs, Collars & Love world. When it came time to choose a cover model, I narrowed it down to three guys. Then I was stuck! So, I took to all of my social media accounts and put up a poll to help me choose our Hector. By the end of the day, Mr. Smoochy – that’s what we nicknamed him – had run away with it. And I have to say, now that he’s on the cover, I think he’s perfect. I’m happy. But I’m also sad. This is the last book in the CC&L series! No more SWAT for the foreseeable future. I’m getting all teary-eyed and nostalgic when I think back to that first email I sent to Melody Simmons with the details for a cover for The Sergeant. I love what she came up with. Simple, dark and sexy. I originally didn’t have any plans to write a book for Hector, and when I first created the character, I thought he was straight. But as the series went on, he jumped off the page, becoming more and more developed in my mind every time he was in a scene. I loved the back and forth banter he had with Clay and his connection with Ryan. This scene from The Detective's Pleasure is the very moment where I accepted the fact that Hector needed his own book and a boyfriend. You see in my head, Hector had a bit of a secret crush on Ryan. It wouldn’t go anywhere of course, Hector respects Ryan’s relationship with the detective. And Ryan wasn’t the man that would get Hector to acknowledge his attraction to men. Miguel on the other hand… Miguel Delgado is my cutie-patootie. I just love him and want to give him cuddles. Hector thinks he’s adorable too. And that’s why he can’t resist him.
Ah! I’m so excited for you to read this book. A Sniper’s Devotion is a little softer and sweeter than both Logan and Clay’s and Ryan and Sam’s stories. But as I’ve already learned, each couple has their own story to tell and I can’t force them to fit into a mold. A Sniper’s Devotion releases November 7th and is now available for pre-order. Between now and then, I’ll have lots of giveaways and readings and book release related giddiness, so be sure to check my site often and follow me on all my various social media. Oh, what’s that? You want a giveaway for this post? Fiiiine. ;-) Comment below with one thing you like about the CC&L series. One lucky and randomly drawn winner will receive a bit of A Sniper’s Devotion cover art swag. Sadly, I can’t show it to you because it’s not here yet. But trust me, it’s cool. Okay, I’m leaving you now with an excerpt, a Goodreads link so you can add Hector & Miguel to your TBR and pre-order links. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! EXCERPT FROM A SNIPER'S DEVOTION Miguel looked up again as Hector came back out of his bedroom wearing a pair of gray sweats and nothing else. He pressed a little harder with the iron than he needed to when he saw that bare torso. It just wasn't fair how much he loved Hector's chest. Miguel wanted to lie across that broad expanse while Hector played in his hair like he had their one night of shared intimacy. He could just imagine it. They'd both be sated from sex, Hector's golden skin gleaming with sweat from his exertions. And Hector would be gentle and teasing as Miguel came down from his orgasmic high. His fantasy was on the verge of spiraling out of control when Hector sat on the couch, legs slightly spread. Miguel almost burned himself with the iron. He was ninety-nine point nine percent sure Hector wasn't wearing any underwear. Or if he was, they had to be a very loose pair of boxers. Because Miguel could see…everything. The round outline of his balls and the length of his shaft that Miguel knew would be even longer if he were aroused were plainly visible. The sight was as enticing as the devil holding a bucketful of the sweetest candy. As a dental assistant, Miguel knew candy was bad for him. Just like staring at Hector's dick was bad for him. Miguel felt like he'd dodged a bullet as he determinedly looked down at the scrubs he was ironing. After seeing Hector lounging in sweats sans underwear, he was more thankful than ever that he'd made the decision to leave his best friend's bed. That's right, folks. It's finally time. An Officer's Submission, part two of Logan and Clay's story from The Sergeant, is now available. I'm so excited! Book birthdays are always awesome, but this one in particular makes me happy.
When I first self-published The Sergeant I had no clue what to expect. I hoped I'd sell 314 copies over several months. I ended up selling a few more than that, and the feedback I received from readers motivated me to write more. So now here we are, on book four (or 3.5 depending on how you count novellas). Logan and Clay had a little more to say and I was very happy to let them get it out on the page. I'd like to give thanks to everyone who has helped me along in my writing journey. I won't list any names because there's bunches and I like to keep these posts fairly short. So I'll just say thank you to everyone who encouraged me, gave me pep talks, sent me messages letting me know how much they love Logan and Clay, read for me, reviewed for me or, shared their love for the books with their reader friends. Thank you all so much. I have one more book in the series to write. Once you make it to the end of AOS I'm sure you'll be able to figure out who is getting a story next. I'm planning for a summer release for it. So stay tuned! An Officer's Submission is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com and Kobo. It's .99 for a limited time only. The rest of the books in the series are also on sale, so if you or a friend has wanted to try Cuffs, Collars and Love now is a great time! Hello, gentle readers! As promised, I'm here this week with the cover reveal for An Officer's Submission, Book 4 in the Cuffs, Collars, and Love series. An Officer's Submission is the continuation of SWAT officers Sergeant Logan Pierce and Clay Foster's story. We first met Logan and Clay in The Sergeant. In Book 1, Logan and Clay started a wild relationship, full of tension and passion as they learned how to love one another as Dominant and submissive. Book 2 gives Officer Ryan Bennett and Detective Sam Roberts their shot at love. Book 3 is a sweet but very sexy Christmas novella for Logan and Clay. And now, we have Book 4, which releases March 16th. I shared the blurb last week. This week, in addition to the cover, I have a little excerpt for you as well. And there it is. Isn't it beautiful? Now, I know what you're thinking. Christa, that's awful close to the cover for The Sergeant. And yes, it is. Intentionally. I know, I know. I'm supposed to have similar covers for marketing purposes. But in this case, the decision to use the same models was more of an emotional one. Logan and Clay are my first self-published babies, and their cover will always have a special place in my heart. So when it came time to do the cover for the second half of their story, I didn't want to stray too far.
In this case, I think their pose is perfect, we see a little more of Clay, which makes sense, because An Officer's Submission focuses on him. And of course, we have Logan showing his support with a hand on Clay's shoulder. Yay. They make me smiley faced. Okay! We've got the cover revealed. Now, let's talk excerpt and another round of ARC giveaways. Excerpt from An Officer's Submission Logan looked at his partner now, watching as Clay quietly undressed. "You Okay?" Clay nodded, but Logan saw the vulnerability in his eyes. "Come here." Logan pulled his sub into his arms. "Talk to me." "You know how when a cat wants attention from its owner, he wraps around their legs until he gets it?" "Yeah." "That's how I feel right now. I want to be wrapped around you." He paused for a moment, breaking eye contact as he lowered his lashes. "And I want to let you take over and control me." Logan tightened his embrace on his sub. Clay had come a long way since they'd first started their Dom/sub relationship. But Logan knew it was sometimes still a struggle for him to admit to his needs. He tipped Clay's face up. "You know I'll always give you what you need." Clay nodded. "I know." He kissed Clay gently, stroking a hand down his back. Clay returned the kiss, his lips soft and parted beneath Logan's. Logan kept one arm wrapped around Clay's waist as he reached out to turn off the light. The moon dimly lit the room as Logan pulled the covers back and got them into bed. When they were laying on their sides, facing each other, Logan tugged Clay's leg over his waist. He ran a hand over his hip, slipping his fingers into the leg opening of the tight briefs Clay wore. Logan caressed the smooth skin of Clay's ass, kissing him with all the passion he felt for his lover. Clay moaned quietly, his warm breath brushing over his cheek. Logan trailed his lips up to Clay's ear. "Mmmm, I love that noise. So sweet." *** Gosh, Logan. Can you stop being in love with your submissive for two seconds? 😉You can find out how the rest of their story goes on March 16th. In the meantime, you can add An Officer's Submission to your To Be Read List on Goodreads and bookmark their page on my website so you don't miss any updates. And if you haven't read the first three books in the Cuffs, Collars, and Love series, now is a great time to get started with The Sergeant. And finally, I have three more ARCs to giveaway. This week, all you have to do is comment below answering this question: What does SWAT stand for? Either include your email in your response, or select the Notify Me button in your comment so you receive an email if I reply to you. I'll use Random.org to select three winners from the correct answers. Good luck and congrats to all of last week's winners! Thanks for reading!
